Summer Camp 2011
[30 July - 6 August 2011]

Personal Clothing & Equipment

The following is a minimum list of personal equipment that each and every camper must provide and bring to camp. All personal items must be clearly marked with the owner's name, or identifiable as their own property. Please note the 14th Croydon Company will not accept any liability for lost items of personal property.

It is recommended that the bulk of camper's personal items are packed into two separate luggage bags. One bag for bedding only, and the other for clothing, etc, and other personal items. Please avoid using suitcases, if at all possible, as these are just too bulky. In preference, we suggest strong holdall type bags (barrel shaped) or, ex-army surplus kit bags, or something similar.

Campers may also take one item of hand luggage with them on the journey to Camp.

Bedding should be rolled-up and tied, and placed in a large holdall or strong bag (please do not use bin liners or anything similar, as these are too weak & flimsy, and completely inappropriate).

All other personal items should be packed into another separate large strong bag or holdall.

Bedding: One individual ground-sheet (approx’ 3'x 6'), and a Foam sleeping mat (two, if preferred) or, an Air-Bed or Air-Mattress (but don’t forget the pump!). Next, a warm Sleeping Bag plus one Blanket (single bed size), and yes, you will need this! You may also want to take a small pillow or cushion, but this must fit into your bedding-roll or holdall/bag/container.
Clothing: T-Shirts or Shirts/Tops, and, Pullovers/Sweatshirt(s), and, Jeans or Trousers, plus some Shorts (should we get some sun!). Underwear and Socks (enough for 7 days!). Pyjamas/Nightwear, Swim-wear, a warm Jacket or Anorak, plus a Waterproof Jacket or Cagoule (it will probably rain, so you must be prepared).
Footwear: A change of footwear is essential, so, Training shoes or similar, and strong walking Shoes or boots*, or, failing this, another pair of strong training shoes. Also, Wellington boots, or, strong waterproof Shoes or boots* (*these may be the same pair of shoes, but only if suitable [NB. school shoes will do, if reasonably waterproof] ).
Wash-kit: Face flannel, Soap (or a soap substitute), Toothbrush & Toothpaste, Shampoo, Towels (one hand towel and one bath towel at least), Hairbrush and/or a Comb.
Mealtimes: One Dinner Plate, one Cereal or Dessert Bowl, one Mug or large Cup (all unbreakable, please, no china!). Knife, Fork, & Dessert Spoon (but not a teaspoon), and no plastic cutlery, please!! (it breaks too easily).
Accessories: A watch and/or Clock. A Bible (old and new testaments, please), a Tea Towel. Handkerchiefs, Torch (plus spare batteries), pen & paper, (optional postcard & stamp to send home). Personal sports equipment may be taken if desired but at owner’s risk (eg. bats, balls, rackets, etc). Cameras, i-Pods, etc, are also allowed, but at owner’s risk (we cannot be responsible for the loss of any valuable items).

Please note that whilst the above list of items is the minimum requirement for each camper, more may be taken, but only if it can be packed into one bag or holdall or kit bag, one bed-roll, and one item of hand baggage (making a total of three luggage items only per Camper).

Please also note that there are no drying facilities for clothing at Camp, so Campers must come prepared to protect themselves and their personal items from the damp and inclement weather, and have sufficient change of clothes to compensate for wet or damp items.

If you are uncertain or have any questions about any of the above then do please ask.
